The National Society for Epilepsy has up to recently been providing residential services for almost 200 people at its 339 acre site at Chalfont St. Peter, Bucks. In line with the change of lifestyles currently being promoted and the thought that those viewed to be more independent should be accommodated within the community, the NSE are therefore working with partners such as housing associations to develop tenanted accommodation units and small home groups away from the Chalfont Campus. Unfortunately insufficient suitable places are available to meet these needs, this applies particularly to the less independent and more vulnerable. Having benefited for many years from the freedom of movement and higher level of security offered by the 339-acre site; they face the real risk of actually becoming effectively prisoners due to poor placement as opposed to profiting from life in the community. To help alleviate this possibility, BBAE has been established and registered as a charity, to raise funds and/or services from people associated within the building industry, in order to build, on an under utilised site on the outskirts of the existing campus, a residential block to high modern day living standards, which provides both the freedom and security but still offering a degree of independence if wanted.
